I Was Taught To Be Ashamed of My Sexuality, 2009
As a straight, cisgender person, it was challenging to enter a group where there wasaan inherent distrust of those who were neither trans nor homosexual. However, over time, friendship and trust grew, allowing me to document their lives. This series of documentary photographs captures the daily experiences, celebrations, and intimate moments of a group of Iranian transgender individuals—people who have been told by religion, society, and even their own families to be ashamed of their sexuality and gender identity.
